The management and concept of workshop
In the 21st century, “Science” should be to “Science as a culture” ,
that mean everyone can enjoy science as a culture. The new community
which should be bearing new science education in the 21st Century
was needed. In 2003, “The Association of Promoting the Science
Education for the 21st Century (APSE21)” started to hold the workshop
to discuss on the future of the science education that has focused
on science communication and communication policy. Science
Communication is essential as the process of permeating of science
to the communities. It is very important that a network of Administration,
Research Institutions, Media, Museums, Schools and General
Public and so on, and set up these communities to join the Workshop
of APSE21 to promote Science Communication between different
communities.
Problems of communication on science topics are; how the science
museum works as a place of science communication, what the most
important information is for the public, and what is a barrier we have
while we make communication. We guess these were cleared by the
dialogs between talented people of the various communities in this
workshop.
Before holding a workshop, a non-profit executive committee for the
workshop management was organized and applied for some foundation.
After running the executive committee, the member set up the
project commissioner. The executive committee planned many joint
meetings with the project commissioner, so that we could decide a
purpose of the program for the workshop. In advance through many
meetings, we could send a questionnaire to the participants and got
back lots of demands before the workshop.
Project commissioners bear "concept-making". They prepare a program
with " hospitality mind ", and they make carefully the program,
considering that is for whom and what the result is. Executive committee
bears "management", and thinks about each "participant's
conditions” , and we make preparations so that it can cope with various
requirements. And, it is tried to provide the subject that can't be
solved as a topic for the next workshop. The management of the
workshop means that their results were in "the process of the preparation".
This workshop put a program with the schedule for two days
together, which a panel discussion, lecture, topics offer, group discussions,
evaluation, a poster session were planned. These components
were provided toward the participants who attended as the various
positions to announce.

FUTURE
2006 Science Literacy
Based on public-participation-type events held in each area including various types “Science café”, we will inquire the longer-term direction of public interests for science and technology. Moreover, we will discuss effects of science literacy, which foster public's attitude from children to adults toward science and technology.
